John F. Guibert posted a condolence
Monday, February 3, 2020
I want to thank everyone their kind words about my father. Over the last few years Dad and I have done several kayak trips which have brought us closer together, more as friends than as father and son. I often thought his great ability to make friends, to tell stories (he had several about Valley View) as his greatest strength. I miss his warm smile, our walks outdoors among nature, and the practical jokes.
I have always felt the passing of a love one is not an ending but moving on to a state of perpetual vacation. With Dad I imagine him with his binoculars identifying vast numbers of birds and sharing that information with friends and family. I miss you.

John was my guidance counselor at Valley View School between 1976 - 78. He and I remained friends throughout the years. I used to bicycle to his house in Byram Township from Denville. I have good memories of our walks in the park across from the school. He always had a good encouraging word. He will be greatly missed!!

Rita, John and Chris.....I send these condolences with a heavy heart over the loss of this kind and gentle man. John was so good to me when I was a new teacher at Valleyview. I will always remember and treasure his friendship.
I cannot remember which training John offered first - the 8th grade class trip and how to survive it or lunch duty and how to endure it. When I first started at Valleyview, John's son, John, came to speak to my students about how to persevere. He related some great stories that showed how he overcame challenges in his life. I've shared several of his stories many times since then. His dad was so proud.
I wish you all peace and the blessings of the universe as you mourn and grieve your loss. I stand with you in your grief.
Fondly, Marian Lezgus

Rita and family and friends - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of John. I had the pleasure of knowing him as a colleague at Valleyview and then working with him on many Kiwanis projects. He was a special man, a gentle man. We joined "trail" duty for the Morris County Parks on the same evening and enjoyed sharing details of our clean ups. He was always introducing me to new things - buffalo burgers at his backyard barbeques, bird stats and Shakespeare plays. I will always remember his smile, his laugh and his passion for life.

To Rita, family and all of our friends in common,
We wish to express our deepest sympathy to you at this time.
John was among the sweetest, gentlest and most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was a wonderful educator and child advocate of the highest order. He was the truest of friends.
He was so very supportive of me when I came to Valleyview in 1988 and he helped me through some rough patches as a teacher and later when I became an administrator. Really, he was helpful to everyone he met.
I will never forget his kindness to me and to others; one does not meet such a man all that often and I will remember him fondly for the rest of my days.
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, dear friend.

Rita and family,
I’m just heartbroken to read this. Mr Guibert was my guidance counselor at Valleyview all those years ago and then I had the joy and pleasure of being a fellow Kiwanian with him the past few years. Our meetings were always brightened by John’s smile, his focus on service, eagerness to help with anything and everything, and his stalwart leadership of our Camp Fatima service project. We will miss him greatly. I’m so glad you both joined us at our installation last week, enjoyed sharing a glass of the Famous Guibert wine. Love to you and your family,
Stacey Murphy
