Obituary of Anthony M. Manicone

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony M. Manicone, of Wharton, formerly of Totowa, passed away suddenly with his loving family by his side on Wed., August 21, 2019 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. He was 76 years young. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 26th at 11 am at St. James of the Marches Church, 32 St. James Place, Totowa, NJ. Entombment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. Public Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 25th from 2 – 7 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Donations are being accepted in his name by way of www.inmemof.org to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Born and raised in Garfield to the late Thomas and Sadie (Graceffo) Manicone, he was one of four children. In 1966, he graduated from St. John’s University in Long Island with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy before becoming a Registered Pharmacist or RPh. With that, his 50+ year career began in the Pharmaceutical industry. He started out working for Lewis Drug Store in Westwood until finding his forever home at Baron Drug Store in Rutherford. In the 1970’s he became the owner and Head Pharmacist. Anthony took pride in his work and felt rewarded to help people; he was the “official” team  pharmacist for the NY Giants, Nets, and NJ Devils. This was very special to him as he was an avid Giant and Mets fan. He also loved the fact that since he was the owner of Baron Drug Store for so many years, he was able to take care of many generations of families. He was dedicated and involved member of Garden State Pharmacy Owners and past president of the Bergen County Pharmaceutical Society.

In June of 1967 he married his soulmate, Betty Korger. They started their journey together in Lodi, relocated to Nutley, settled down in Totowa where they remained for 36 years before becoming pioneers in the Fox Ridge section of Wharton.

Anthony loved bowling, going to rock n’ roll concerts, and taking trips to Wildwood and Atlantic City. Above anything else, his family was his pride and joy. He absolutely adored spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. We will never forget the unique nicknames he had for everyone, the practical jokes he always played on us, and his kind-hearted soul.

His legacy of unconditional love and laughter will continue on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty; his treasured children, Lori Ann Manicone and Thomas Anthony Manicone and his wife Coreen; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer and William; his siblings, Michael Manicone and his wife Maria, Carmela Cusmano and her late husband Stephano, and Frank Manicone and his wife Nancy; and many other extended family and friends, especially those at Fox Ridge who became adopted family.
