Obituary of George H. Johnson

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With much sadness, we announce the passing of our dear friend George Johnson.

“Where flowers bloom, so does hope.”

George Johnson passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, November 21, 2018 after a brave bout with cancer. He shared 74 years of love, kindness and generosity with everyone he knew.  A Funeral Service will be held at the Norman Dean Home For Services on Sunday, November 25th at 7 pm.  Friends and relatives may visit beginning at 4 pm that afternoon. Flowers are beautiful and are welcome!

George was born in Kearny to the late Harry and Florence Johnson.  After his schooling, he was drafted into the US Army proudly serving our country.  Upon his honorable discharge he married his high school sweetheart Linda Zange and they eventually settled in Denville to raise a family.  He was a hardworking Dad and did everything in his power to make the kids happy.  His heart was larger than life.

In 1970, George opened his business. He has operated a successful flower shop in town, Flowers By Candle Lite for the past 48 years.  He and the shop are fixtures of this community.  He was a talented designer and loved sharing his work.  He was kind and considerate.  He was generous beyond words. He was a true gentleman and an all around amazing friend. Outside of his work, his family was his pride and joy.  He adored Linda and was so very proud of his children.  The sun rose and set on his granddaughters and he bragged of them to whoever would listen.  “Papa George” was incredible. Although we are heart broken, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and is watching over us all and smelling the gardenias.

He leaves loving memories to his wife Linda; children Todd (Anita), Jody Johnson (Michael); adored granddaughters Ashley, Olivia and Brielle; brother Harry (Jacqueline); his shop family and many more dear relatives, fans and friends.

“Walk through life with flowers in your hair and love in your heart.”
