Obituary of Douglas L. Idleman

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas “Doug” Idleman passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 27, at the age of 54 after a long illness. Born in New York City, Doug spent his formative years in Madison, New Jersey. He graduated from Madison High School in 1979 and went on to earn his BA in Political Science from Denison University. Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout as a student, he stayed active with the Boy Scouts for most of his adult life. He truly enjoyed being a Scout Leader, donating his time to the organization. A communications expert and excellent writer, he began his career at AT&T in public relations and product marketing where he held several positions. After leaving AT&T, he joined Wordsmith Communications, an ad agency based in Randolph, and later formed Starstruck Marketing, a PR firm specializing in sports marketing. When his health started to fail him, he retired from the agency business, although was occasionally asked to consult on special projects such as script writing and media management. A huge sports fan, he cheered equally for the Yankees, the Giants and his beloved New York Rangers, and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He loved going to games with his friends and would even make time for someone else’s team when invited. Above everything else in this world, however, he was devoted to his family whose company he relished. He will be remembered for his quick wit and humorous stories which everyone always enjoyed. Despite a long health battle, Doug never complained nor did he lose his sense of humor. He truly was an inspiration to everyone around him. Predeceased by his father Lee Idleman, he leaves wonderful memories to his wife Maureen; his children Devon, Ryan, Allison Krummann and Michael Krummann; his mother Sue (O’Connor) Idleman; his brothers Christopher and Scott (Elizabeth) Idleman; his loyal canines Misty, Max and Maddie; and many loving relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave, Denville. Friends, fans and relatives may visit on Monday, February 1 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in Doug's memory to the good work of the NJ Sharing Network Foundation, 691 Central Ave, New Providence, NJ 07974.
