I have just learned that Walter has passed away. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I knew Walter from St. Francis where I worked for 12 years. He was such a wonderful man with a compassionate heart . He was generous in spirit and his kindness was unending. I remember his humor and the way he could brighten everyone with his smile. We all were blessed to know Walter! I will remember him always, Gail Kuchavik

I have happy memories of your Dad - and I can only see him smiling in my mind. A handsome and charming guy - you were so lucky to have each other all these years, although there is never enough. Thinking of you and your family during these days ahead,

Dear Bettina, Chris, and Fred,
Please know that although I am not physically with you at this difficult time, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
My earliest memory of my Godfather, Uncle Walter, was being the flower girl at your parents' wedding. I remember practicing how I would walk down the aisle in that pretty yellow dress.
I was lucky enough to be part of the cross country adventure in the family trailer! Your Mom took us to the pool while Walter was at work and we frequently ate at Furr's cafeterias. I think I ate more jello on that trip than I had before or since!
Thinking "outside the box" was something he was always excited to do. Who even heard of Luge no less a kid from NJ practicing for and being on the Junior Olympic team!
Some of my favorite pictures of Uncle Walter are those of him showing off his dance moves with Richard's aunt at Meghan's wedding.
There were often long spans of time between our visits. Every time we would get to visit I would again be struck by what beautiful, sparkly blue eyes he had.
I know he will be missed but remembered by many, many people.

Dear Fred--
I was so saddened by the "passing" of your father when I read the Obituary in the Daily Record. He seemed like such an interesting, and nice man and of course you do not "fall far from the tree." Now I understand how unique and special you are too. When this appeared earlier in The Daily Record I must admit that I "Googled" your name and the article that you wrote about your Dad's stroke in 2010 brought tears to my eyes.
Such a caring tone that article was, and your story about during your childhood when you would practice the Luge on the grounds of St. Francis, etc. My heart is grieving with yours.
David has relocated to Los Angeles, CA. He was recruited from Sloan Kettering to continue his research in Retinoblastoma at Children's Hospital in LA. I e-mailed your Dad's Obituary to him with the hopes that he will contact you too...
Your Dad will surely be missed.
Love,
Laura Cobrinik

I always enjoyed visiting with Walter and learning about all of his incredible life experiences. He was a very kind and helpful individual and would go out of his way to assist others. He was one of the best of our Greatest Generation and while he will be missed, we are all better off for having known him. His family is in my prayers.

Dear Bettina and Fred,
God blessed your dad with a devoted family. You will cherish all the things you did with him. You will feel a void that can't be described, but those who are going through it too are here for you. This may help:
Grief never ends....but it changes.
It's a passage...not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness....It is the price of LOVE.
You made Walter's days happy. He's on a different "road trip" now!!
With love and blessings,
Mary Ellen and Jim

To Fred and his family,
I was sorry to hear of your father's loss but it brought back memories of your father with his kind eyes and smile. Always at the track with his video recorder in hand, filming the history of luge. At the kitchen table at Weber's Inn and attendance at all of the celebrations and ceremonies supporting his son and the athletes from around the world. Take care.
