Obituary of Brian Denis Clifford
Brian Denis Clifford passed away suddenly at his home in Plainfield, NJ on June 24, 2024, at the age of 79.
Born in the Bronx, NY, to Terence and Lee (Lavora) Clifford, he grew up in Denville, NJ before attending college at Montclair State where he earned his undergraduate and master degrees. He worked at Metuchen High School for eight years and lived in town before moving to Tennessee for two years, where he earned an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology. Returning to Plainfield, NJ, he worked as a guidance counselor at North Brunswick High School for the remaining 31 years of his career in education, retiring in 2006.
Brian loved to travel, visiting 135 countries with his wife, Debora. He truly enjoyed ocean and river cruising. He also loved to read, was a great researcher, and in his younger years, an avid camper and rock climber. His home away from home was Starbucks, where he could often be seen talking with baristas, sharing his counseling expertise.
He was predeceased by his brother, Keith Armstrong Clifford.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Debora Lynn (Solomon) Clifford of Plainfield, NJ. He is also survived by his sister Diane Lynn Clifford, also of Denville, and her husband Jeffrey Howard, their children, Robyn Clifford-Howard and Terry Clifford-Howard (wife Felicia), and his grandnephew Preston Clifford-Howard.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Denville Cemetery in Denville, NJ under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.
