Obituary of Robert Williams Hartman
Robert "Bob" Williams Hartman peacefully passed away in the comfort of his Denville, NJ home on November 6, 2023. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Maureen, and their children, R.J. Hartman and Jeannette Piazzi, along with her husband, Leonard Piazzi. Bob's love extended to his three adored grandchildren, Pia, Lino, and Gina, who brought immense joy to his life. He was a loving and proud grandfather, and their memories together will always be treasured.
Born in Red Bank, NJ, to the late Robert and Joanne Hartman, he was raised in Keyport, NJ alongside his brother, Harvey Hartman. After graduating from Keyport High School in 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Forrestal. Upon returning stateside, he married his sweetheart, Maureen M. Callaghan, and began building their family.
Bob's commitment to education and personal growth led him to graduate from Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, PA, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education with an emphasis on History. He then embarked on a 28 year career in teaching, sharing his knowledge with students at Parsippany Christian School and Abraham Clark High School, ultimately retiring in 2011. While Bob enjoyed imparting the lessons of our world's past to his students, his true passion lay in teaching American History.
In addition to his professional achievements, Bob was a man of deep faith and strong family values. He was a dedicated member of Faith Family Fellowship church in Dover, NJ for over two decades, where he served as a Deacon and passionately shared his wisdom as a Sunday School Teacher. His commitment to his church community was unwavering and a testament to his spiritual devotion. Bob's genuine and kind-hearted nature made him a rare gentleman, leaving an indelible impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be sorely missed by the church congregation and his many friends.
Bob's true calling, however, was being a loving husband, devoted father, and the best grandpa, anyone could ask for. He poured his heart into supporting and nurturing the activities and passions of his wife, children, and, most recently, his beloved grandchildren. Bob's unwavering attendance at their extracurricular events was a testament to his love and dedication. Notably, he passed down his passion and love for model trains to his son and grandchildren, forging a tangible link with a cherished American toy tradition.
Throughout his life, Bob Hartman's warmth, dedication, and love left an enduring mark on the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of family, service, and education will be celebrated and remembered with great affection.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11 at Faith Family Fellowship church.
