Leonard V. DiMenna passed away at St. Josephs Medical Center in Wayne, NJ on October 31, 2022 at age 73.

Lennie was born in Bronx NY to Leonard A. DiMenna and Mary (Amendola) DiMenna on February 8, 1949 Lennie spent his youth in Long Branch, NJ and graduated from Rider College with a B.S. in Business Management.

Lennie worked in Materials Management for various firms in NJ until a battle with cancer caused his retirement. After becoming a cancer survivor, Lennie volunteered at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville NJ delivering books to patients. From there, he became a volunteer at The Book Barn. With the sale of the hospital, the fate of The Book Barn and The Thrift Barn was unknown. Lennie organized The Book and Thrift Barns into a non-profit organization of which he eventually became President and Manager. Through hard work and devotion Lennie and his volunteer staff were able to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to charitable causes. In 2018 The Book Barn/Thrift Barn were awarded the “Key to the City” for their work, Lennie proudly accepted the Key which hangs in The Book Barn.

In his spare time Lennie was an avid reader, loved hiking and camping in the mountains of New York state. His quiet time was spent with his dog, Skye.
