Obituary of Salvatore Iacopelli

Please share a memory of Salvatore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Salvatore J. Iacopelli passed away suddenly at home on Monday, March 14, 2022. He shared 70 years of love and law with his extensive family and friends.

Sal was born in 1951 to the late Dr. Joseph Iacopelli and Wanda (nee Winterrot) Iacopelli Kinczel. He was raised in Boonton and graduated from Hofstra University and the Villanova Law School. Shortly after graduation he headed to Alaska to open a law firm with friends and his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Merner.  After several years, they returned to New Jersey and he started a longtime career with Strulowitz and Spear. He later worked for Allstate and retired in 2017. Inseparable for over 50 years, he and Mary Lou were blessed to travel and enjoy life together.

Sal enjoyed spending time with books, reading and political comedy and was renown for his teasing, witty remarks. Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is with his dear partner Mary Lou once again and is watching over his family with compassion and love.

Predeceased by his life partner Mary Lou Merner, his parents, stepfather John Kinczel and nephew Jimmy Bergen; he leaves his siblings Anita Bergen, John Iacopelli and Stephanie Iacopelli; nieces and nephews, Maria, Nicholas and Michael Iacopelli, Michael Freeman, Scott Bergen, Kitty Griswold and Graham Bergen, stepmother Lucy Iacopelli and many more dear family, friends and peers.

Private arrangements were held under the direction of the Norman Dean Funeral Home, Denville. Donations in his memory may be made to the good work of any non profit literacy program or to the Orton Dyslexia Society.
