Obituary of Leroy H. Mitchell
Leroy H. Mitchell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. He had shared 71 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, priceless wisdom, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Born in Dover to the late Leroy H. Mitchell, Sr. and Catherine (Gollins) Mitchell, Leroy was one of seven children raised in Denville to bless the Mitchell household. He graduated from Morris Knolls Class of 1968. Leroy then went on to begin his career as Technician with RCA; he started his career working on antenna’s and as the times and hardware changed, so did Leroy’s work and skill set. He traveled the United States learning about his industry and kept up to date with the technology. By the time he retired in 2012 he was now working for Mitel, Inc. based out of Clifton. Leroy worked so hard to support his family. Above anything else, his family was his first priority and we will forever be grateful for his love and devotion.
Leroy was a dedicated and active member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #390 in Denville; he was the Commander for 15 years and was also the former County Commander and State Commander. When he wasn’t spending time at the Legion or with family, you could find him helping out in the community. He volunteered for countless local charitable events. His guilty pleasures were watching his favorite teams, the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.
Although we are deeply saddened by Leroy’s passing, we take comfort in knowing that we have the greatest Guardian Angel watching out for us from above. The next time you have a shot of Jameson, please lift it in the air and take it in memory of our beloved Leroy.
He leaves only joyful memories to his adored wife, Susan; his treasured children, Leann (Paul) Mellor and Leroy “Buster” (Kelleen) Mitchell; his cherished grandchildren, Paul (Danielle) Mellor, Mykel (Jo-Ann) Mellor, and Gillian Mitchell; his precious great-grandchildren, Savannah, Gillian, and Richie; his caring siblings, Kathy (the late Jack) Myer, Barbara (Bart) Kaplan, Lenora (Bob) Wilton, JoAnn (Tom) Rosevear, Tommy Mitchell, and Betty (Pedro) Alicea; his worshiped pups, Spanky and Darla; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Public Walkthrough Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4th from 3 – 7 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leroy’s name are being accepted to the Sons of the American Legion or SAL, 9 Legion Place, Denville, NJ 07834. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Leroy here to continue to celebrate the extraordinary life he bestowed upon us.
