Words fail me. I can say that I am over my anger at him getting ill the way he did, but I would be lying. This was not supposed to happen to him, but it did. Life has a way of doing this to us. It isn't fair, and we know this, but the pill is still a bitter one to swallow. I was lucky to call him friend since we were in the 2nd grade together, and we went through every year of school together through the end of college. I took an extra year but I'm sure he graduated on time; he had plans to go cross-country with the love of his life Maddy. Had it not been for Joe, I doubt I would've finished high school. He called for me every day on his way to school and my younger brothers made sure I was dressed and ready. Otherwise I would have slept till noon or later.
Having a person in your life from the virtual beginning, you gladly give them a piece of your heart. That part is now gone forever, but my soul is so much richer for having had him in my life. He was a great friend and a gut neshama (good soul). This was known by everyone whose life he touched.
I will miss him forever.

One of my fondest memories was going with Uncle Joe to dozens and dozens, if not at least a hundred Devils' games.
We knew every player, everything about them, the scores of all the playoff games.
He was a great uncle and I find comfort hearing my kids tell me that he is happy up in Heaven.

I worked with Joe, at CCS, these past 5 years. His life was cut too short. I will miss our chats. Sometimes about family or his love for his little pooch Henry. And I will miss his almost daily reminders to me to stop working and take a lunch break or stop working to eat supper. He was a kind man and a pleasure to work with. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Joe!

I had the pleasure to be the flower girl in Joe and Madelon’s wedding and blessed to have them at mine. Joe was a kind soul who was always enjoyable to be with. There are many happy memories of him spending time at our family farm in PA. Thoughts and prayers for Madelon and the family during this time

I am so sorry for your incalculable loss. There was only one Joe Sarti. From his infectious smile and wry sense of humor to his tremendous kindness, he will be missed. I shared a highlight of my life with Joe and Eric Feit when we went to Woodstock in the summer of 1969. We only bought a plastic $1 tent with us for shelter which needless to say blew away on night one, but the memories just kept getting better from there. Yes, we were high the whole time, but not from drugs. It was from being in contact with good friends, good music and sharing it all with 500,000 other lovers of life. RIP, sweet Joe, and may your light shine down on all of us.

I have known Joe since the 4th grade. He in the viola section, me with the violins. I don't think either of us had a great future in the Philharmonic. We reconnected in high school, sometimes playing "penny soccer" on the lunchroom table. And, lastly, at Lehman where his gentle authenticity and fiery commitment to the things he deemed important brought out the best in everyone with whom he came in contact. The world has lost a wonderful, caring, committed, sweet soul. I wish Maddy and the family strength and the knowledge that his spirit will live on in all those he touched with his goodness and in all our hearts and minds forever.

I did not know Joe for long, I just started working at CCS in May of 2019. But, when I met him during my first short visit there we kind of hit it off. Over the past 2 years we worked on various projects together and spent not a few hours just talking and getting to know each other. I will miss Joe and the times we just got a chance to talk. I am so sorry.

I met Joe during our Freshman year at Lehman College- 53 years ago. We became great friends. I was in his and Maddy's wedding party and lived down the block from them after they were married. Maddy reminded me that the kids at the local park would call me Alisha's other father. We did not see each other often over the years, as life seemed to get in the way, but we spoke often.
What I will miss most about Joe is my asking him what was new and he would talk for two hours. He would tell me what he had for breakfast and with whom he'd spoken the day before and go on and on. I loved it and wish I had one more chance to call him!
I will always remember is green army coat...I think he was born wearing that thing! As Eric reminded me, I had told Joe that when we first met, he looked like Che Guavara and now he looked like Santa Claus.
I will have Joe in my mind and heart for as long as I have both!!!

Dearest Maddy and family,
My deepest and heartfelt condolences. I am so saddened by Joe's passing, and will forever remember his light. I knew Joe since public school, and college reintroduced me to Joe as an adult and to Maddy. Joe was a wonderful, authentic human being, and he will be missed❤
