Obituary of Katherine Marie Buonocore

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Katherine "Kathy" passed on to the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. Kathy was born in Manhattan, NY. As a young girl, after her mother (Marie née Slattery) passed away, she moved to New Jersey with her father, the late Ralph Buonocore. She lived in Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey and graduated from Parsippany High School in 1960. After high school she worked at Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park and eventually GPU Nuclear in Parsippany, from where she retired. She has been a long time resident of Rockaway, New Jersey moving there in 1962, where she raised her children. Kathy was a long time member of the NorBu Lodge in Rockaway Township and Vasa Park in Budd Lake. She was very active at GPU and was also an officer of the bowling league. After leaving GPU, she enjoyed bowling on the NorBu Lodge bowling league. She loved traveling with her husband and family in their motorhome and as a passenger on her husband’s motorcycle. She was an avid NY Rangers hockey fan and had the opportunity to see them play in the Stanley Cup finals at Madison Square Garden in 2014. She enjoyed spending many quiet times at the cabin in Lake Kemadobi in Dingmans Ferry, PA.  One of the many highlights of her life was two family cruises with all of her children, their spouses and grandchildren. The first cruise in 2010 and the second cruise in 2018.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Patrick Deo; her three children, Edward J. Halvorsen III (Andrea Libretti), Stephanie Halvorsen and Suzanne Halvorsen (Vinny); six stepchildren, Michael Deo (Jen), Lisa Lewis (Jon), Gina Mencl (Brian), Lynn Fraumann (Alex), Lori Ebert (John) and Patti Deo; two brothers, Ernest Tillman (the late Susan) and Kenneth Stern (Barbara); four brothers and sisters-in-law, Angela Deo (Larry), Rosanne Petruzziello (Vincent), Frank Deo (Lucy), and Michael Deo, Jr. (Irene); 16 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
