I'm pretty saddened by the passing of Mrs. McGregor. I have very fond memories of her, having attended Valleyview Middle School and I best remember her being a very nice person in the main office to talk to as she was the secretary to the principal when I was a student there.

A Tribute to our Nanny
Originally written by Fred Laudati when Arlene retired from Valleyview Middle School
Adapted by her Granddaughters
Listen ye gathered and you shall all hear
Some choice commentary of the one we hold dear.
95 she would have been, 23rd is the day
Celebrate her memory we will with a few words we’d like to say.
Arlene, Nanny, or Mom was her name
McGregor, her surname and grandmother her game.
A game she played well, just ask around
A better grandma could nowhere be found.
3 girls and 2 boys – five children she had
All grown and successful, for that she was glad.
9 grandchildren followed, 7 more greats
A big, sprawling family spread across states.
Our Nanny had a sweet tooth, to this we can all attest
When watching the Mets, Arlene was at her best.
Engaged in discussions some things were quite clear
Her days spent in Clifton, she always held dear.
Her gardens she loved – irises, roses, daffodils and more
With a cigarette in hand, the weeds she could not ignore.
She enjoyed time with friends, like pizza on Friday
With seniors on Wednesday, bridge she would play.
What stays with us most through many a year
When times were tough, you knew she’d be near.
Nanny was our constant when life threw us a lot
We are forever grateful for that special time that we got.
Nanny, thank you for the memories, we’ve sure had our share
It seems like we thought that you’d always be there.
Though no longer here, you’ll always be in our heart
That’s something that no one or nothing can part.
So now you’re at rest, your time is your own
No more will you answer us calling the Oaks phone.
Off to Heaven you have gone, and we know it is true
That you are now reunited with the Watt and Hall crew.
Singing with your Dad, today we know you are
With endless mussels marinara and bread baskets afar.
Happy birthday, Nanny, and we speak for all here
You’re someone we’ll treasure and always hold dear.
