“O my Luve’s like a red red rose, …”

Margaret Gythfeldt passed peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2020.  She shared 85 years of love and music with her family and friends.  Friends and relatives may attend her visitation on Saturday, October 10th from 2-4 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville, NJ.  A Service will begin at 4 o’clock.  In these unprecedented times, we understand that not everyone can be here.  Margaret’s service will be recorded and added to her webpage for you to view from the safety of your home.  To view the service video please click  HERE.

Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of the Alzheimer’s Association or to Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Pocono, PA by way of www.inmemof.org.  Please share your memories here.  Her family will cherish them forever.

Margaret was born in Oldmeldrum, Scotland in 1935 and was one of four children to bless the Durno family.  In the spring of 1961, she was visiting family in Norway and was a guest at a wedding.  It was there that she met Audun Gythfeldt, and the rest is history.  They married in July of 1962 and settled in Glasgow, Scotland where they started their family.  In 1965, they moved to the Oslo area in Norway where they spent a total of 10 years.  In 1980, they immigrated to the US where they made their home in Morris Township.  There, she was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the organ.

Margaret was an amazing mother and nurturer.  These qualities brough her to the Early Childhood Learning Center where she was an aide and a one-on-one for over 25 years.  She loved her students and had a special ability to connect with each of them.

Margaret has always been musically gifted.  She loved to sing and play the organ.  She shared these gifts with her family who continue to share them with others. She was the music director at her church, Trinity Episcopal, for the past few years and at Church of The Savior before that.  She was an animal lover, and when she was home, she could be found with Mittens, the cat, in her lap.

Her greatest titles were those of Mormor and Grandma.  She loved her seven grandchildren like nothing else and was so proud of them all.  Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing heaven just got a little sweeter.

She leaves beautiful memories to her husband Audun of 58 years; her children Margit Jean Spector ( Danny), Marianne Gythfeldt (Marco Ceruso) and Magnus Durno Gythfeldt (Michelle); her grandchildren Sarina (Tallan Shrimpton), Daniel (Kathleen Olifiers) and Brandon Spector, Maude Ceruso, and Myles & Emma (mom Keeko) and Maximilian Gythfeldt; her dear sisters Mary Leyden and Alice Matheson; her church family and many more friends and relatives. Her brother, Leslie Durno, passed previously.
