Virginia was an enthusiastic participant at NJ Audubon Ridge camp, and it was such a pleasure to have spent the last couple of summers with her. Her friendly nature easily drew in new friends. Virginia’s smile, made me smile. Her sometimes quiet, thoughtful moments in activities was just her way of assimilating information which allowed her to step confidently into camp leadership roles. She was a role model for new campers, fun and playful in activities, respectful to others and the natural environment. Standing on the Catfish Fire Tower, the breeze in her hair, overlooking both Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be one of my favorite memories of Virginia. I am so very sorry for the loss of this dynamic and beautiful young lady.

I was not lucky enough to know Virginia, but the pictures in the video remind me of my youth spent with Tim. Tim and I are cousins and grew up together going to the same school, often in the same class, and playing on the same sports teams. I am sure Virginia brought to her friends what Tim brought to me through my childhood - a good friend and someone you could always count on.
I know she will be missed and I am very sorry her life ended too soon.

I had the honor of being Virginia's fourth grade teacher. And I mean that - it was an honor. I also had the pleasure of being her "Tabor neighbor." There are some students you never forget, and Virginia is that student for me. I will never forget her sweet disposition and kind soul. She was so incredibly hard working. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you are going through, but please know that I will never forget your special daughter. She will live on in our hearts and memories. Coaches remember their players. Some more than others. Virginia was one of the players that I loved having on my team, and was one of my favorite players to coach. Watching her growth over the short 3 months we were fortunate enough to have together on the team was an amazing experience. I remember her Champions League soccer ball with the black stars on it, and how she had by far the strongest kick on the squad.
But it was her smile that stuck with me the most.
She appeared to start the season as a shy player, but as her confidence grew, so did her personality. With each practice and game, she opened up more and more. By the end of the season, it was clear she became a leader on the squad.
It broke my heart as her former coach to hear the recent news of her passing. As a friend, I give my condolences to her family during this trying time.
My number one rule as a soccer coach was to always have fun. Virginia followed this rule and led by example. May she rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear the new about Virginia. I had the privilege of coaching her in Flag Rugby with Parsippany PAL/Morris Rugby back in 2012 with Markus Gebur. We were know as the Owls and even though it was a group of young fun loving kids you could see that Virginia was active, athletic, caring, thoughtful, and full of live.
We will keep her in our thoughts.

Anne - your Asymchem family are all at a lost for words on your loss. This is beyond our ability to understand how or why something like this can happen, especially we all have kids around the same age as Virginia. We feel heartsick just thinking what you and your family must be going through, but know that your friends and colleagues here have kept you in their hearts - we've combined all the donation contributions from the China side into one, and have made the donation today to the Newark school system in Virginia's name (letter shows all the contributors from China side). We're so happy to see you and Tim's unselfish yet bittersweet decision in this time of hurt to better the lives of others moving forward. You are in our prayers. --- Elut Hsu, for Asymchem China side.

Tim –
We didn’t get to see Virginia often, but we were always excited when we got a text from you: “Are you in town next week? Virginia and I will be in town.” While we didn’t get to spend time with her every visit, we will always remember the smiles on your parents’ faces when Virginia was with them (or when they spoke of her) or sitting in church and getting a tap on the shoulder and a quick Virginia story from Aunt Barb (beaming from ear to ear, of course).
But the memory that will always stand out is the light in your eyes and joy in your voice as you proudly (rightfully so) shared with us what Virginia was doing in school, sports, at church, or being outdoors.
We are heartbroken at your loss, and please know we are sending our condolences, love, and hugs.

Dear Anna and Tim,
Virginia was beautiful and wise beyond her years, with so much to offer. I remember the day I met her at the dog park and was so impressed with her cool manner and clever wit. I could spot her natural talent even on the day she picked up that ancient violin you had recently discovered and started to fiddle around with it. I will never forget her bright smile at the 4th of July neighborhood event and seeing the closeness she shared with you both that evening. You nurtured her many natural gifts, gave her the company of loving pets, and showed her the importance of caring for others. I remember how she always found a way to brighten my mood even if I was already in a good one. She was quiet at school to other people, but when she was with her friends she was hilarious and a big extrovert. She was the kind of person you just wanted to be around and the person you would think that was perfect. She always made these funny faces using filters or actions that I would take pictures of during our facetimes. A lot of the time, we would play games for hours and stay up on face time until like five in the morning because she loved to stay up so late. I remember how she got me into track and recommended me Netflix shows. Even when I made a bad drawing or did bad in a race in track, she just kept telling me that I did good and that I tried my best. She pushed me to be a better version of myself and to improve on everything. She cared for her friends, family, and pets all the time. She took pictures of her pets several times and talked about her great parents a lot. I even remember during lunch time at school she would ask me if I was okay as if she could just read my mood. She got something out of me each time she asked just to make sure that I was fine. She will forever be in my heart with all the great memories we shared and my condolences to her family and others that were close to her.

My first memory of Virginia is as a baby in my Infant Room at Goddard. She was long, had curly hair, and a smile that brightened up the room the moment she entered...always happy, never cried, and always enjoyed her friends and teachers. I always enjoyed one on one with each Infant, but my favorite was Virginia because she so loved practicing the "Royal Wave" as I called it, and she was so proud when she accomplished it. My first memory of Virginia is from the soccer field; me thinking, "Who is that tall kid that can dribble through traffic so well?!?". I had a natural affinity for Tim because he wore a St Louis Cardinals hat and that was just up the river from where I grew up in Memphis. I got to know him better when he, Fred, and I would take on the kids at the end of soccer practice, a highlight of my life but that's kind of another story! My daughter became good friends with Virginia and I was grateful for that. Virginia was the kind of kid you want your kid to be friends with. Everyone can relate to the awkwardness of middle school, I always appreciated that VA would give me a "Hello Mr Etheridge" at the track or soccer field, not every middle schooler will do that. I loved picking Zoë up from Virginia's and seeing how well those two got along- goofballs giggling uncontrollably- a good friend that you can be yourself around doesn't come along every day. After we moved away, Zoë stayed in regular contact with Virginia (as a parent who moved his kid away from her friends it was comforting to know that my daughter still had friends to talk to, Virginia was a great friend to my lonely displaced daughter). I would hear about how Virginia would blow up Zoë's phone with emojis... goofballs.
And now there's this loss, this terrible abrupt blank space. Virginia was a very special kid. The fact that she is gone makes no sense. It makes me cry... for her, for her parents, for my daughter, for what she was going to do and be. I'll never forget her.

TIm and Anne,
Our fondest memories of Virginia took place either on the court, or on the track. She was such an amazing athlete, and always gave it her all. She had such a quiet dignity and when she showed emotion after a win or loss, you couldn't help but feel it right along with her. When she sprinted down the track, we were amazed at her speed. When playing defense and Coach Fred would loudly cheer her on, her expressions were priceless. We remember celebrating victories (and defeats) at the Hyatt's house. The kids would have so much fun...just being kids. Virginia's smile and laughter could light up the entire room. She will truly be missed. You are forever in our thoughts and prayers.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Mark, Jen and Shannon

Tim and Anne,
I have heard many stories of Virginia’s accomplishments and beautiful character through the years as she grew into a budding young woman. There are no words for the magnitude of your loss and for the loss to her community and this place. My heart, thoughts and prayers will be with you in the coming days, weeks, and months. May you find comfort, love, solace, and peace during your grief and as you remember all that Virginia brought into the world and into your hearts.
With deepest condolences,
Rhonda Gingrich

Virginia, you are in our hearts forever. Your gentle, caring, helpful nature will always be with us. Sunday mornings on the alter, Christmas Eve pageants, church Halloween parties, making bags for the shelter, helping with younger Sunday School students are just some of wonderful memories I have and will treasure forever.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. I remember Virginia from when I served lunches and she was a well mannered quite girl with a sweet smile... Nidhi says she is one of the nicest girls and a great athlete... we are very saddened that such a beautiful life was taken away so very soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My deepest sympathies to the McCarthy family as they grieve for their wonderful daughter, Virginia. She was such a kind young woman at church, fine athlete on the track and a great role model. I’m deeply saddened to hear of her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you McCarthys, may you find peace as you grieve.

We were so incredibly saddened to hear of Virginia’s sudden passing. Gracie said on the last day they were in school, they talked during their Art of Writing class and said “she was one of the nicest people I have ever known”. She was an amazing athlete who consistently demonstrated good sportsmanship, teamwork and a will to try her best. It was a true pleasure to coach her from a young age for Denville Striders Track and Field where she excelled as a runner and shot putter, We also loved watching her play soccer and basketball with Gracie. She made so many baskets and was the best rebounder but was always so humble. One thing for sure is that she loved how much you always supported her and coached her. She will be missed immensely. Our hearts go out to you. We have some great photos of her time with Striders. Please know we are thinking of you and praying you somehow find comfort in these memories.
