Obituary of John P. Vialard

John P. Vialard, 96, formerly of Budd Lake, passed away peacefully at Morris View Health Care Center on Thursday, January 1, 2015, with his loving daughter Joan by his side. He had been a resident there since January, 2011. He shared the same room with his loving wife of 73 years, Evelyn. Evelyn, his beloved wife, passed away on March 1, 2013. John was born at home on Cedar Lake Road in Denville, NJ, Sept. 20, 1918. He attended Denville public schools and at an early age began hunting and trapping He worked for many contractors in the area, for some as a carpenter. In 1936 he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Denville, camp P-65. In 1939 he married his darling wife. In 1940, he worked in Hercules Powder Plant as an explosive operator. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabee's during World War II. He spent most of his active duty in Attu in the Aleutian Islands. In 1938 he became a member of the Denville Fire Department Association. He later became an active fireman. In 1947 he was a First Aid Captain and became department Fire Chief in 1954. From 1947 to 1992 he was a member of the State of New Jersey Forest Fire Service as a Warden at Large. He was a paid fire fighter at Picatinny Arsenal from 1950 to 1959 and was transferred to installing and repairing hydraulics equipment. He retired from the Department of the Army in 1978. He was a member of many organizations which meant so much to him He was a lifetime charter member of The National World War II Memorial, National Association NARFE, AARP Founding Member, NLEOMF Master Mason St. John's Lodge Number One, a thirty-second degree Scottish Right Mason, a Noble MSALAAM Shriners, an exempt Denville Fireman, life member of Fireman's Association, a charter member of Rockaway Township Club Incorporated, the NRA, the New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Hunting Heritage club. He was also past member of the Picatinny Arsenal Rod and Gun club and also past member of Sunrise Farms, Hankins, NY and Silver Fox and White Tailed Hunt, Orten, NY. He was an avid fisherman including ice fishing. He loved to hunt all game and deer. In his later years, turkey hunting became his skill. He would collect many turkey calls and decoys. One of his greatest past times was being in the woods. He loved the peace and beauty. He also, during our growing up years, would be working three jobs at a time but was always the best dad and husband. When he was 93 he wrote his autobiography, "A Life Well Lived" and it was. He was the son of Lucille Marie (Bailey) and Albert Vialard. He was predeceased by his brother's Henry and Albert and his baby sister Suzanne. He leaves behind his beloved home town of Denville as its oldest and very proud Past Fire Chief. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Joan Suzanne Renton and her husband Richard of Andover Township, his loving and devoted son, John and wife Linda of Plymouth, IN, his loving granddaughters Lisa and Sandra and her husband, Jim, his two loving grandsons, David, his wife, Olaya and Daniel. He also leaves his seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Kaitlyn, Elija, James, Evelyn and Caleb. He was so very proud of each and every one of them. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and very close friends. He will be so missed for his loving ways and how dearly he loved his family. He also will be missed for his humor, his love of people, his zest for conversation, his knowledge and memories of the past, his friendship and his deep love for his wife, Evelyn. His family wishes to commend and thank Morris View Health Care Center for its devotion and loving care. The entire staff was outstanding and he enjoyed them so much. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 5th from 4-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 6th at the funeral home. Entombment to follow at Locust Hill Mausoleum, Dover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Denville Fire Department, 2 Indian Road, Denville, NJ 07834.
