Obituary of Bette J. Meslar

Please share a memory of Bette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bette J. Meslar, of Rockaway Township, passed away peacefully with her loving children by her side on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 87 years young.

Born in Glen Ridge, she was raised in Belleville to the late Clarence and K. Frances Heal. Bette met and married Donald R. Meslar and together they raised their family in Hillside before relocating to Rockaway Township. She worked in payroll at Schering in the 60’s, had many odd jobs in the 70’s, and found her niche working alongside her husband at Hahne & Company in Westfield before retiring in the early 90’s.

Bette had many passions in her life including Horticulture and music, especially 70’s rock n’ roll and folk music. She was an avid reader, especially Civil War, mystery, thriller, and adventure novels. She was also a miniature golf expert, undefeated to this day. She loved exploring lighthouses along Northeast coast. While in her 70’s, she completed the “NJ Lighthouse Challenge” where she visited and climbed every single lighthouse in New Jersey. Bette truly was one-of-a-kind.

Above anything else, Bette was a phenomenal mother and her children always came first in her life. She shared her love of art, hiking, camping, nature, and the outdoors with them. They took many camping trips all along the Northeast. Bette has left us with a legacy of hard work, dedication, and unconditional love and laughter that will remain for an eternity.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Donald in 1995, she leaves joyful memories to her adored children, Cindy Meslar and Bob Meslar; and her cherished pup, Katie.
