Joseph was born in Newark to the late Joseph and Katherine. After his schooling he enlisted with the US Air Force proudly serving our country and earning the rank of Staff Sgt. Upon his honorable discharge he graduated from FDU and went on to be an electrical engineer with Honeywell. In 1962 he was blessed to meet Arline Birkholz. They married and a few years later, Joe was the proud and busy father to five children. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He was firm and deliberate yet always with a caring heart. As the years passed, he became a Grandpa seven times over. He loved the kids and has always been so loving and generous with them.
After retirement, Joe found more time to tend to his gardens and take trips to the casino. He enjoyed both so very much. He was truly a good guy. He had lifelong great friends. A few years back, he headed west to PA where he settled into Country Meadows Assisted Living. There, he formed new relationships and tended to their garden. This pleased many residents and staff. They enjoyed his bounty and his company. Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace. We will forever remember his snore and we will think of him every time we enjoy an everything bagel.
Predeceased by his wife Arline; he leaves his children Barry Birkholz, Karen (Harry) Fahrer; Joseph Bachstadt (Sue), Donna Balmer and Lisa Buro (Ralph); his grandchildren Harry Fahrer (Elizabeth), Stephanie Jordan (Sean), Emily and Allison Bachstadt, Billie Balmer and Bethany and Marissa Buro; and his brother Robert Bachstadt. His sister Madeline Tell passed previously.
