Obituary of Martin A. Dubel

Please share a memory of Martin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Martin A. Dubel passed peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at his home at The Oaks. He shared 100 years of love, faith and great fishing tales with his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Denville. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 25th from 5 to 8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave. Denville. In lieu of flowers his family selected an organization that combines two of Marty’s passions- Veterans and animals. Please give in memory of Martin to Patriotpaws.org.

Marty was born on a beautiful day in May of 1919. He was born in Newark and was one of eight children to bless the Dubel family. After High School, he proudly served our country with the US Army during WW II and was stationed in Rushden England. He served as a fireman in the Irvington fire department.

Being part of the greatest generation, he gave his time and talents to better the community and himself. He married Clare McCann and they eventually settled in Chatham Township where they raised their two daughters.  He graduated from Rutgers in Newark and went on to have a long career with Ciba Geigy. After his retirement he was afforded more time for volunteering at the VA Lyon’s Hospital, fishing, gardening and golfing. He also loved to travel. Marty and Clare enjoyed many cruises and adventures through the years. Above all, he loved being near his family. Although we are saddened by his passing, we will forever be blessed by our centenarian’s wisdom, guidance and love.

Predeceased by his wife Clare (2005); he leaves beautiful memories to his daughters Denise Dubel (Robert Morris) and Lisa Dubel (Ronald Rich); his grandchildren Casey Rich (Jamie Thibault), Holly Bacilo (Dan) and Connor Rich (Brianne Bernardo); and many nieces, nephews, dear friends, acquaintances and his caretaker Elaine. His siblings Mary, John, Henry, Sophie, Stephen, Julia and Ludwig all passed previously.
