Obituary of Nargis M Hilmy

Please share a memory of Nargis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nargis "Nancy" Hilmy passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  She shared 72 years of love and faith with her family and friends.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at St. Mary & St. Mercurius, 125 Academy Street, Belleville, NJ 07109.  Entombment to follow at Christ Church Cemetery, Belleville.  Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 23rd from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  Please share your memories here.  Her family will cherish them forever.

Nancy was born in Cairo on May 13, 1947.  She was the youngest of five children to bless her family.  As a young woman she immigrated to the states, settling in Jersey City, NJ.  It was at her church where she met Sam Hilmy.  They married and started a family of their own.  Nancy was an amazing Mother.  The sun rose and set on her children and she and Sam worked hard to provide them with a good life with much opportunity. She was truly the glue of the Hilmy family, always keeping everyone connected and in the know.  She was very religious and stayed strong in her faith.  She always looked forward to Church on Sunday and speaking with her fellow Church goers about religion.  She was social and loved to chat on the phone and in person.  She enjoyed discussing politics and always stayed current on the happenings here and in Egypt. She was respectful of everyone’s feelings and beliefs and you always felt loved in her presence.

Nancy always had a smile on her face and could be found laughing often.  In her later years, she was crowned “Teta” to two lite boys.  She was the proudest Grandma and worlds best spoiler.  She bragged of the kids to anyone who would listen.  Although we are broken hearted, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching over her family with much pride and love.

She leaves only joyful memories to her husband Sam of 45 years; her children Peter (Melanie) and Mary Ann (Ryan); her adored grandsons Peter and Matthew; brother Fred Ayad and sister Elizabeth Abdou; and many more dear relatives, friends and neighbors.  Her siblings Fawzy and Fawzia passed previously.
