Obituary of Cecelia Colon
"Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure... You are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure." - Renee Wood
Cecelia “Cele” Colon, of Denville, passed away suddenly after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was 68 years young.
Born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Rudolph and Cecelia Zaleta, she was one of 4 children to bless the Zaleta household. At age 21, she married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Izzy Colon. Their journey together brought them from Connecticut to New Jersey to North Carolina and back until they settled in Denville 25 years ago. Cele was the definition of a mother; a true caregiver to all blessed enough to have met her. While battling cancer, she was keeping a spotless house, making a delicious dinner every night, taking care of sick and well family members, and was a full-time Nana. She was always the host for holidays, birthdays, and family get-togethers. Cele did all these things because she wanted to, not because she felt obligated. She had the kindest heart, the purest soul, and truly was our Matriarch and Superhero. If she wasn’t spending time with her adored family, you would find her listening to her favorite music, dancing, or visiting museums exploring artwork. Although she was taken too soon, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and we have the best guardian angel looking out for us.
Her legacy of unconditional love and laughter will continue on in the hearts of her beloved husband of 47 years, Izzy Colon; her cherished daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Frank Carbonetti; her treasured grandchildren, Elijah and Abel Carbonetti; her loving brothers, Rudy Zaleta, Jody (Terry) Zaleta, and Randy (Shellie) Zaleta; her loving sister in law Miriam (Robert) Weiser, her caring nieces and nephews, Alexandra Zaleta, Jay Zaleta, Leigh Zaleta, and Paul Morales and many more extended family and friends.
Public visitation will take place on Thursday, August 29th from 4 – 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Cele.
