Obituary of Catherine A. Bischer
Catherine A. Bischer, of Lake Telemark in Rockaway Twp., passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover. She was 91 years young.
Born and raised in Hoboken to the late Samuel Mass and Genevieve Carolyn, she was one of two children. When she met Paul Bischer in Grammar School, she had no idea that this boy would become her future husband and love of her life. They married in 1951 and began their family. They already became a family of four before relocating to their forever home in 1958 in the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Twp., ultimately becoming a happy family of five. It was then that she realized her true calling as a homemaker and mother. She truly was the definition of a mother. She cared for her children and grandchildren fiercely and with unconditional love. They were her pride and joy. As her children were growing up she was very active in their lives; Catherine was Den Mother of the Cub Scouts and always the Room Mother in School. She was a very talented seamstress who enjoyed making Halloween Costumes, Christening Outfits, Wedding Dresses and Raggedy Ann Dolls for her Grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening was her true passion.
Paul and Catherine were Happily Married for over 52 years and hosted many gatherings at their home; she thrived when entertaining and cooking for those she loved. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church in Rockaway. She was also a member of the Lake Telemark Women’s Club. Our matriarch will be forever treasured in our hearts and memories.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Paul in 2003 and her brother William Mass and his late wife Helen, she leaves only joyful memories to her loving children, Michael P. Bischer and his wife Linda, Brian J. Bischer and his wife Beverly, and Lynne M. Hon and her husband Sam; her cherished grandchildren, Lindsey and Michael, Amy and Rob, Ryan and Kelly, Steph and Steve, and Alyssa and Ben; her treasured great-grandchildren, Brielle and Bryce; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. We take comfort in knowing her soon to be third great-grandchild has a guardian angel now looking out for them.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 11 am at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 90 Church Street, Rockaway, NJ. Burial will follow at Marcella Union Cemetery, Rockaway. Public Visitation will take place on Monday, July 29th from 5 – 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted to the Hibernia Fire Department by way of www.inmemof.org. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, share your favorite memory of Catherine with her family.
