Obituary of Joan Grimes

Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joan Grimes passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.  She shared 85 years of love and faith with all who knew her.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 22nd at 1:30 pm at Assumption Parish, Morristown.  Friends and relatives may visit from 10 am to 12:30 pm that day at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  Interment to take place on Saturday at 10:00 am Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.  Donations in her name may be made to the good work of Doctors Without Borders or The Wounded Warrior Project by way of www.inmemof.org

Joan was born in 1933 in Philadelphia to the late Michael and Mary Dunne.  After her schooling she became a registered nurse receiving her training at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa. She met George Grimes while studying one day at Saint Joseph’s University and they were married for 58 years spending most of their time in Armonk, NY.   Joan worked over 20 years as the school nurse at Byram Hills High School in Armonk.  She truly loved being a nurse and caring for others.  After retiring,  Joan and George moved to Fox Hills in Rockaway, NJ to be closer to their family.

She enjoyed traveling and reading; but above all spending time with her family was most important.  She loved being at each and every sporting event to cheer on her grandchildren.

Joan was very faithful.   She was a devout Catholic and was a longtime parishioner at The Church of St. Patrick in Armonk and at St. Bernard’s, Rockaway. Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort knowing she is reunited with her best friend and late husband George and her dear son Patrick.

She leaves beautiful memories to her children Gregory (Kim), Maryellen O’Hara (John) and Christopher (Anne); her grandchildren Gregory Grimes, Hailey, Ian, Lindsay and Owen O’Hara, and Patrick, Stephen and William Grimes; and many more friends and relatives. Her brother Michael Dunne passed previously.
