Josephine Payne

Obituary of Josephine M. Payne

Josephine M. Payne, of Rockaway Borough, formerly of Cliffside Park, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. She was 20 days shy of turning 98 years old.

Born and raised in Cliffside Park to the late Aniello and Ameila Ferrara, Josephine was one of ten children. She met and married her true soulmate, Kenneth, and together they started their family of four. Unfortunately, in 1967 Kenneth predeceased her which left her to raise their two sons alone; Josephine rose to the challenge. A devout Catholic, she never remarried, yet her boys were always dressed to the nines and well taken care of. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Fairview. Josephine was a traditional woman, making sure to spend Sunday with her family for Sunday dinner, always keeping her family close, especially on holidays. Above anything else, her granddaughters were her first priority. She was a kind, generous, and intelligent woman who has left this world a better place, and her family and friends better people for having known her. She will remain in our hearts for an eternity and generations to come.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth, and adored son, Kenneth, she leaves only joyful memories to her loving son, Richard Payne; her devoted caretaker and daughter-in-law, Jane Payne; her cherished granddaughters, Jessica and Danielle Payne; her caring siblings, Arthur (the late Dorothy) Ferrara, Edith (the late Vinnie) Troisi, and Anna (the late Wally) Molla; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 13th at 10 am at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 90 Church Street, Rockaway, NJ 07866. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview.
