Elizabeth Rose Critides, passed peacefully on February 13, 2019with her children at her side.  In honor of Elizabeth, there will be a visitation and prayer service on Saturday, February 16th from 1-4 pm at the Norman Dean Home Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville.  All friends and family are welcome.  Donations in her name may be made to the ALS Association, Greater New York or some other charity of your choice.

Elizabeth was born in Larksville, Pennsylvania to the late Patrick and Elizabeth Dougherty.  She was the second of five children. She was a quiet and dutiful daughter who watched over her younger siblings and excelled in school.  After graduating high school, she moved to Brooklyn to study nursing.  It was here at King’s County Hospital where she met an established neurosurgeon, Samuel Demetrios Critides.  After a short courtship they married and settled in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.  In addition to raising five children, she became the proud grandmother of fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchildwhile caring for her parents and devoted husband.

Elizabeth, or “Bammie” as many of her grandchildren and friends called her, was a devoted mother who relished the times with her family.  There were always holiday dinners, showers, engagement parties and graduation celebrations at the 501 Ridgewood Avenue home.  Some were for her family members and others for her “adopted” family members.  “501 Ridgewood” was the center stage, where everyone always felt at home.

Elizabeth led an active life enjoying golf, bridge, watching tennis and taking walks, especially when there was wildlife around.  She enjoyed the change of seasons and spoiling her pets. She looked forward to pitchers and catchers beginning spring training.  She was an excellent cook, and avid reader of Westerns and spy novels.  She had many interests, but most of all loved her family and spending time with them.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband Samuel Critides, MD and son Robert Anastasios Critides; she leaves beautiful memories to Robert’s children Robert Jr., Andrew and Luke of Montclair, NJ; and her daughter Elizabeth Critides and her daughter Elizabeth and her husband Michael Callahan and their son Deglán, Michael Zink and Ryan Zink; son SamuelDemetrios Critides MD Jr., his wife Maricarmen and their children Tatiana, Samuel, Nikolai and Athena; daughter Elaine Critides, her husband Mark Lewandowski and their children Matthew and Madelyn; and son John Critides, his wife Amy and their children Penelope and Phoebe.
