Obituary of Sr. Cecilia A. Walsh

The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception mourn the loss of their Sister Cecilia Walsh, SMIC, who died peacefully on January 27, 2019 at the age of 90 at the St. Francis Residential Community in Denville, New Jersey. Sister Cecilia was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1929 to William John and Kathryn Walsh. Born into a large family, she is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Sister Cecilia entered the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God in 1957 in West Paterson, NJ. She attended Tombrock College, St. Francis Hospital, Felician College and Palo Verde College. She earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1973, and was licensed in New Jersey, New York and California. Sister Cecilia worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Texas, St. Joseph's Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, and Mt. Carmel Hospital, Alcohol and Drug Detox and Rehab Center at Straight and Narrow, Paterson, New Jersey, Tucson General Hospital in Arizona, and Palo Verde Hospital in California. She also served as Infirmarian for the I.C. community in Woodland Park. In her retirement, Sr. Cecilia volunteered at Father English Center, helping to set up and run the Boutique in Paterson. She also became an active volunteer the Interfaith Coalition for the Homeless in Paterson Sister Cecilia loved being a SMIC and was grateful for her vocation. Surviving are many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews Deceased Sisters: Mrs. Betty Burns, Mrs. Essie Robb, Mary Catherine Walsh Deceased Brothers: John, William, Thomas, Francis, Robert, James Sister Cecilia Walsh's viewing will be February 1st from 3:00PM on at St. Francis Chapel. A wake service will be on February 2 at 10:30am followed by a funeral liturgy in the chapel at St. Francis Residence. Interment will be in the cemetery of the Missionary Sisters on Riffle Camp Road, Woodland Park, New Jersey at a later date.
