Obituary of Ronald H. Leonard

Ronald H. Leonard, of Denville, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving wife, daughter, and son by his side. He was 78 years young.
Born in East Orange, Ron was raised in Bloomfield, NJ to the late John W. Leonard, Sr. and Marie Hoffman Leonard, he lived in Bloomfield until the age of 6 when the family moved to He spent his summers in the Cedar Lake section in Denville. until age He started working for Denville Township in the Road Department and retired in 2008 as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, after 40 years of hard work and dedication. Ron loved, and was very involved with, his hometown of Denville. He served on the Township Planning Board for 10 years and was instrumental in the construction of the new municipal building. His handiwork can be seen all throughout the town. Ron was also a general contractor. He built his current home along with a previous home. He was endearingly nicknamed "Mr. Fix It," as there was nothing that he could not fix. Among his many accomplishments, something he was most proud of, was being good friends with Bill W. for 31 years.
An avid Sudoku player, he challenged himself by only purchasing Black Belt Sudoku books. He was also very involved with the Cedar Lake Community Club, having been Past President from 1967–1969 and 1982-1983. He also served on the Cedar Lake Friendship Club Board for over 30 years. Ron was also a member of the Cedar Lake Property Owners Association for over 60 years and was a board member for many years. He was also a member of the Boonton Sokol Club. You could usually find Ronald outside working in his yard. He will forever be treasured and missed.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, brother, John W. Leonard, Jr., and son Ronald A. Leonard. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 21 years, Joanne (nee Kraft); his loving children, Eileen DiCarlo and Chris R. Leonard and his wife Jennifer; his caring step-children, Susan V. Tighe and Charles L. "CJ" Tighe, Jr.; and his cherished grandchildren, Sean Willis, Richard DiCarlo, Thomas DiCarlo, Jessica Leonard, and Alora Cline.
Public Visitation will take place on Friday, January 11th from 2–4 & 7–9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Funeral Service will take place Saturday, January 12th at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Cremation will be private. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Ronald's memory to Market Street Mission, 9 Market St., Morristown, NJ 07960. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
