Obituary of Edwin J. Scanlon
Edwin J. Scanlon, of Denville, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 21, 2018 in the comfort of his daughters home while surrounded by his loving family. He was 97 years young.
Born in New York, NY, to the late William and Helen Scanlon, he was one of five children. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in World War II. After returning home, he married the love of his life Anne Gillen, he became a Stereotype Setter for over 40 years, starting out at Mirror Newspaper and retiring from the NY Post at age 65. Edwin was a member of St. Mary’s RC Church and past member of Peace Pipe Country Club where he had a hole-in-one. He was an amazing story teller and always had a great story to share. Edwin was always the life of the party. He knew everyone’s name and everyone gravitated towards him. Above anything else, his family was his first priority, making sure to put his grandchildren at the top of the list. Edwin was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sorely missed.
We find comfort in knowing he is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Anne, children, Barbara and William “Bill”, grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer, and siblings, William, Stephen, and Martha. Left to continue his legacy of unconditional love are his loving children, Edwin J. Scanlon, Dennis (Diane) Scanlon, Maryanne Donlin, Catherine (Glenn) Nosti, Ellen Scanlon, and Robert (LeeAnn) Scanlon; his cherished grandchildren, Kelly Anne Scanlon, Edwin J. (Debbie) Scanlon, Erin Scanlon, Christopher (Breanne) Scanlon, Matthew Scanlon, Daniel Scanlon, Edward Donlin, Glen (Tiffany) Nosti, Kathleen (fiancé Kellen) Nosti, Brian (Galina) Nosti, Theresa (Dominick) Doran, Stephanie (Sean) Temple, Jessica Scanlon, Robert Scanlon, and Rebecca Scanlon; his treasured great-grandchildren, Shannen (fiancé Derrick) Trowbridge, Shawn Stevenson, Devin Scanlon, Ethan Scanlon, Tyshon Bradley, Tyreese Bradley, Willow Bradley, Xavier Scanlon, Patrick and Lilliana Nosti, Julliette Doran, Caitlin and Ryan Temple; his caring brother, John (Rita) Scanlon; and many more extended family and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 28th at 12 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery. Please light a candle and leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
