Obituary of Elizabeth F. McGrath
ELIZABETH MCGRATH OBITUARY
Elizabeth Frances (Bette) McGrath, 88, of Rockaway passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at Arden Courts of Whippany. Born September 23, 1930 in Bloomfield, New Jersey to William and Bessie Burnside Johnson, she graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1948.
She worked as an executive secretary in New York City for several years before marrying John J. McGrath. They resided in Yonkers, New York and North Caldwell, New Jersey before moving to Rockaway. John passed away in 1981. Bette then worked for more than twenty years as a senior client associate at Shearson Loeb Rhodes and its affiliated businesses in Morris County.
Bette and John had two children, Kerry Elizabeth McGrath and John J. (Jay) McGrath Jr. Kerry passed away in 1989. Jay, of Mine Hill, New Jersey, survives.
Bette was an avid traveler, making several trips throughout Europe and the United States during her later years. She enjoyed her many friends and activities at Fox Hills at Rockaway where she lived prior to her illness. She was a beloved wife and mother, cherished aunt and dearly loved friend.
Bette is survived by her son, Jay and her nieces, Robin Rath Gaige of Painted Post, NY, Wendy Rath of Corning, NY and Cindy Rath Christiansen of Wharton, NJ, several great-nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Florence Roghaar, of Florida.
In accordance with Bette’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Norman Dean Home for Services in Denville, New Jersey is entrusted with arrangements. Donations in her name may be made to the good work of the Alzheimer’s Association, 23 Vreeland Rd Suite 105, Florham Park, NJ 07932.
