Frank Herbert, truly a man for all seasons, was my friend and I will always cherish that. My heart goes out to Patrick, Tim and Eileen for you must terribly miss your expansive, fun-loving father. As a NJ State Senator he stood out for his empathy, for his consistent liberal values, for his keen intellect, and not least of all for his ability to stand up and sing with all his heart.

My deepest sympathy to all the family.Frank and KiKi were both lovely people. My memories are of a young couple and I wonder where the years went to. May Frank RIP with his beloved Eleanore until we meet again.

I was a reporter for the Bergen Record when Frank came to the state Legislature after a stint as a Bergen County Freeholder. He possessed the sunniest personality and great energy. I always enjoyed talking to him. I know Frank lives in the memory of many New Jerseyans. He would be amused and enthused to know I am now a Bergen County Freeholder.

My sincere condolences to the entire Herbert family. Senator Frank was truly one of the most ethical gentlemen ever to serve in the State Senate. I had the honor to work for Frank on his re-election Campaign in 1981 and although we were not successful,
I will always remember how graciously he accepted "the will of the people".
For many years after that campaign, I would run into Mrs. Herbert and Frank at Democratic Party events and enjoyed catching up with them.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with all the Herbert's. Senator Frank, may you Rest In Peace.
Francis X. (Frank) Robinson, Jr.

Frank Herbert was one of the most dynamic and refreshing first-time legislators to arrive in the New Jersey Senate after the 1977 elections, at least in my view (I was executive director to the body during his time there). He was, of course, an unusually conscientious lawmaker -- why is how this freshman remarkably became the sponsor of landmark legislation creating New Jersey Transit out of dozens of failing privately operated transportation lines. Yet he was also a person of broad cultural interests as well as political ones; he is the only senator to have asked me where he could find a classical music station on his radio dial in the Trenton area, as New York's WQXR faded out just before Princeton on his drive to the State House each session day.
Frank represented a district in up-market northern Bergen County that, in that era, was one of the most Republican in the state, and was zealously attentive to his constituents. Yet he never lost sight of the fact that his oath was to uphold the constitution and rights of all New Jerseyans. He was truly a bright, shining meteor across the sky of New Jersey politics. But that we had more like him today!

My loving thoughts are with you all as your mourn the loss of this good man. I have many fond memories of Uncle Frank dating back from when I was a toddler and he gave me a rhinoceros toy. No one was more delighted than he when one of my first words turned out to be "rhinoceros". Clearly, he was a born teacher! I will forever remember his intelligence, laughter and generosity of spirit. All of the McDonalds loved and enjoyed Uncle Frank and we feel his absence keenly.

Very sorry to hear about Frank's passing. I helped on his reelection campaign to the state senate in 1983 and spent many hours driving the 39th district with him seeking votes. I enjoyed my time with him immensely.
