Obituary of William T. Scanlon
William Thomas Scanlon, of Denville, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville after a courageous battle with cancer for the past year. He was 70 years young.
Born in New York City, NY, he was one of eight children. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Since 1955, he has resided in the Indian Lake section of Denville. He had a very successful career working as a Clerk at Denville Post Office for 30 years before retiring in 2009; because of this, he was endearingly nicknamed “Postal Bill”. William had an extreme love and devotion for Disney. He attended every single year since they first opened until he was diagnosed with cancer and could not go. Mickey Mouse was his favorite Disney character. He also had a passion for race cars. William was a very special man with a big heart and he will always be remembered and treasured in our hearts.
He is now reunited in Heaven with his mother, Anne and sister, Barbara Dittrich. He leaves only joyful memories to his beloved father, Edwin J. Scanlon, Sr.; his caring brothers, Edwin J. Jr., Dennis (Diane), and Robert (LeeAnn) Scanlon; his cherished sisters, Maryanne Donlin, Catherine (Glenn) Nosti, and Ellen Scanlon; and his loving 28 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 28th at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
