Obituary of Arnold E. Johnson

Arnold “Arnie” Johnson, Tabor Lake

Arnold Johnson passed peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2018.  He shared 92 years of love and joy with his family and friends.  A Funeral Service in his honor will take place on Wednesday, September 26th at 6:30 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Service, 16 Righter Ave, Denville.  Visiting hours will begin at 4 o’clock that afternoon.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tabor Lake Corporation, c/o Janet Moro, 11 Ellen Court, Hillsdale, NJ 07642.   

Arnie was born in 1926 to the late Carl and Fanny Johnson.  He was one of eight children to bless the family.  After his schooling, he proudly signed up to serve his country in the US Navy during WWII.  Upon his honorable discharge, he married his sweetheart Theresa McAteer and the couple settled in River Edge NJ to raise four children of their own.  Being a product of the greatest generation, Arnie worked hard to provide a beautiful life for his family.  He was with the “Telephone Company” for many years, a job which he greatly enjoyed.  He was the best Dad and Grandpa we could ask for.  Some of his happiest times were at Tabor Lake where everyone is “family”. He was very active in the lake community being beach manager and starting every race on Childrens’ Day.   

Arnie was a true family man.  He adored his wife and cherished his children, grandchildren and extended family.  He was so very proud of all the kids and their accomplishments.  Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is watching over this family with love and is with Kenny again.

Predeceased by his son Kenny this past August and his siblings Evelyn, Eleanor and Vincent; he leaves beautiful memories to his wife Theresa of 68 years; his daughters Claire Johnson and Janet Moro (Edward); son David Johnson; daughter in law Susan Johnson; grandchildren Gregory (Val), Erin Johnson (Michael), Christopher and Matthew Gonyea, and Daulton, Charlotte and Peyton Moro; sisters Carol Ann Newman and Doris Steinenger; brothers Sonny and Bobby; dozens of nieces and nephews and wonderful lake community friends.
