Obituary of John Hubert Gillich
John Hubert Gillich, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Succasunna, NJ on June 20, 2018. He leaves many happy memories to those fortunate enough to know him.
He was born to Nicholas and Ellen Gillich in Elizabeth, NJ and was one of 15 children. After graduating Sacred Heart High School, he served our country in the United States Navy as a radar operator during World War II. He was a typesetter for the Daily Journal and a pressman for the Newark Star Ledger. He and his wife Evelyn (nee Seals), the love of his life and married for 67 years, raised their family in Cranford. John was skilled at fixing anything and became the neighborhood handyman and mechanic. He also attained a master rating with the North Jersey Revolver League. After retiring in Rockaway, NJ, he became an expert pool player. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.
He will be missed by his children and their spouses, Steve and Bernadette Gillich, Evie and Steve Schwartz, Cathy and Ken Betz, Jeanne and Charlie Siemer and his beloved grandchildren Nicole and Caitlin Betz, Kevin and Eileen Gillich, Erica and Brendan Siemer, Barry and Kelly Schwartz, Joshua and Audra Schwartz, and great-grandchildren, Charlie and Rachel Schwartz. John is also survived by his brother Thomas Gillich and wife Pat, and sisters Joan Pede, Margaret Gillich and Dottie Gillich, and 68 nieces and nephews.
