Obituary of John P. Dudys
John P. Dudys passed away peacefully at age 96 on June 3, 2018 in Dover, NJ. His kind heart, humor and love will be missed by many.
He was born to Anthony and Mary Dudys (Pason) on May 10, 1922, in Rockaway, NJ. He lived there until he enlisted in the Navy with his two buddies on October 3, 1942. His mother, Mary, was not happy. John served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1945, when his father Tony, passed away.
Once he was home, he met and fell in love with his “Angel”, Eileen, and they built a life together in Denville and raised their 3 children. John continued his service working for the Federal Government at Picatinny Arsenal transporting artillery and equipment as well as playing a mean game of Pinochle, until his retirement in 1978. After he retired, John took some time off but got bored. He drove a bus for Morris Catholic, was an usher at St. Mary’s, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and did some driving for Norman Dean. After Eileen passed in 1983, John became a “Snowbird” and split his time between New Jersey and Ormond Beach, Florida for the remainder of his life.
While on a church trip to Ireland, John met his second wife, Virginia. The dated for many years and got married in 2001.
John enjoyed entertaining and throwing an annual pool party for his neighbors and friends. He loved to tinker and there was rarely anything he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed listening to all different eras of music as well as singing and dancing. A hobby that John picked up from his mother was gardening. He grew vegetables in his garden at home, in the Denville Community Garden and planted his last row of tomatoes before journeying back home to New Jersey on May 3. If you asked anyone to give you a word to describe John they would say “kind.” He was willing to do anything for anyone and help people through anything.
He leaves many happy and humorous memories to his children,Jeffrey Dudys and Cindy (Chuck) Alencewicz; grandchildren Jonathan (Katie), Victoria (John), Sarah, Matthew, Samantha and Sydney; great-grandchildren Alex, Abigail, Isabelle, Sophia, Collin, Gabriel and Maria; son-in-law Bob Bell; daughter-in-law Betty Dudys; His wife Virginia; step-children Richard (Alison) Enright, Kevin Enright, Catherine (Joseph), Deborah Cortale, Henry (Diane) Enright and Sean Enright; 10 step-greatgrandchildren and many other dear relatives and friends.
He is now resting in peace with his loved ones who passed before him. His beloved wife Eileen Dudys, daughter Pam Bell and step-grandson Christopher.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 16 from 9 – 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s RC Church, 15 Myers Ave., Denville; Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will proceed to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Boonton, NJ at 11:15 a.m. Memorial donations are being made in his honor to the good works of Compassionate Care Hospice and American Cancer Society by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
