Marie Silvestri, Our Matriarch, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandma

“We are born of love; Love is our Mother…”

Marie Josephine Silvestri passed away on Monday, May 28th surrounded by her family and all of their love and prayers.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 1^st at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Mountain Lakes, NJ. Visiting hours will be held that morning beginning at 8 am at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  

Marie was born in Orange to the late Angelo and Concetta Cocozzielo.  After her schooling she waited for her sweetheart Nick to return from the service and then married on April 26, 1947.  They quickly started a family of their own, raising seven children!  While Nick was at work providing for his growing family, Marie raised the kids with discipline and much love. She was tough and caring.   Marie was an incredible Mother.  She was resourceful and always put her family first.   Sometimes, they didn’t have it all together….but together they had it all.    They lived in Orange for a while before settling in Denville, where they have resided for over 55 years. 

Marie enjoyed traveling with her husband every year after the holidays and making pit stops along the way.  There was always an adventure to be had.  She loved dining out and spending time with the grandkids.  There was never a gray area with Marie.  You knew where you stood, always.  The Silvestri’s had a beautiful life together.  Although our hearts are broken once again, we take comfort in knowing Marie is embracing her beloved “Nicks” and watching over this family with much joy and love.

Predeceased by her husband Nicholas (2017); her son Nicky ( 2017) and her grandson Nicholas Haid; Marie leaves funny and loving memories to her children Phyllis Hershberger (the late Robert), Anthony Silvestri (Jackie), Marie Fischer (Gary), Florence Haid, Angela Howard (Russell), and Charles Silvestri (Linda). She was the adored Nana to her grandchildren Michael, John, Mary Rose, David, Gary, Marie, James, the late Nicholas, Toni Ann, Amanda, Alicia, Jilian, Dena and Nicholas III and to her eleven great grandchildren. Her siblings Carmela and Angelo passed previously.
