Obituary of Carmela Freda

Carmela Freda (nee DellaSala), 75, of Whiting, NJ and Prata, di P.U. Avellino, Italy, passed away July 3, 2017 at Casa di Cura di Mercogliano, Italy. She previously lived in Denville, NJ. Carmela was born in Orange, NJ on July 15, 1941 to Raffaele and Sabina (Natale) DellaSala. She was the loving wife of Anthony Freda, Sr. who passed away on Aug 7, 2002, and mother to Anthony Jr., who passed away on Sept 27, 2012. She worked as a medical assistant and medical office manager for over 25 years, eventually opening her own medical billing and transcription service, and a deli before retiring to Italy part-time. She could accomplish anything she set her mind to from oil painting to skiing to learning to harvest grapes and make fine Italian wine. Carmela loved her family and friends, always willing to lend an ear or a hand. She enjoyed photography, cooking, sewing, gardening, volunteering, was an avid scrabble and card player. She enjoyed going to Atlantic City, especially with her brothers, nieces and nephews!! She is survived by her loving daughter Sabrina and favorite son-in-law Joseph Toomey, her grandchildren Charles Standridge, III and his wife, Rachael, Loren Freda and Catherine Shipley, great-grandchildren Raven and Fynn Pratt and Sara Shipley, and daughter-in-law Jane Freda. Also survived by brothers Samuel DellaSala and Rosemarie, and Charlie DellaSala and his wife Joanie, along with many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her siblings Angelina "Gingy", Anne, Anthony, Josephine and Maria "Mary". A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, Nov 28 at St Mary's Church in Denville, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences on Monday, Nov 27 from 2-6 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville NJ. Memorial donations can be made in her name to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
