Obituary of Ruth Marie Martin

Ruth M. Martin, (nee Antes), passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017.  She shared 93 of love and generosity with all who knew her.  Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 4-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ 07834.  In lieu of flowers, donations during this season of Thanksgiving to your local food pantry are much appreciated.  Please share your memories with Ruth’s family here.  They will cherish them forever. 

Ruth was born in Illinois to the late Henry and Katherine Antes. A woman ahead of her time, she furthered her education earning her BS in Science from the University of Illinois in 1946.  She met Donald J. Martin at in Chicago and after a whirlwind romance, the couple married and started a family of their own.  They settled in Fair Lawn, NJ where they made a good life together.  Ruth was selfless and donated much of her time to her community.  She volunteered at many places, including hospitals, theatres, dances and was a math tutor for children as well.  She was a long time Girl Scout Leader.  She loved being a troop leader. When at home, she could be found knitting or crocheting, likely a beautiful gift for family or friends.  She traveled the world, embarking on new adventures each year.  Her most favorite times were when her grandchildren would arrive at her home in Florida or when they would camp in the Poconos with them.  Most recently, Grammy was crowned the title of “Great Grammy”.  She loved meeting her great granddaughters and watching them grow.  This family Matriarch has given us much to be grateful for.

Predeceased by her dear husband Donald (1993), she leaves beautiful memories to her children David (Pat) Martin and Nancy J. Lasher (Bill); her grandchildren Ryan Martin (Nicole), Nicki Flynn (David), Caryelle and Jason Lasher; her great granddaughters Harper and Teagan; and many dear friends and caretakers.
