Obituary of Robert Edward O'Mahen
Robert Edward O’Mahen, of Rockaway, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 31, 2017. He was 81 years young.
Born in Forest City, PA to the late Edward and Jean O’Mahen, he was raised in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Montclair State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. He made a very successful 41 year career as a Spanish Teacher for the Morris Hills Regional District and was the Basketball Coach for 50 years where he received the loving nickname of “Señor”. He loved sports, especially golf. He also enjoyed taking trips to North Myrtle Beach. His main priority in his life was his family. They were his pride and joy and his memory will forever be treasured in their hearts and souls.
Left to keep his legacy alive is his beloved wife of 46 years, Barbara O’Mahen; his loving daughters, Tricia (Michael) Dickey and Erynn (Veli) Viinanen; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Mackenna, & Grayson Dickey, and Aidan Viinanen; his much loved sister, Gerry O’Mahen; and many more loving relatives and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7th at 10 am at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 90 Church St, Rockaway, NJ 07866. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Rob’s memory to The National Parkinson Foundation by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please visit www.normandean.com to leave a condolence for his family.
