Obituary of Theresa Carey
All That I Am Or Hope To Be, I Owe To My Angel Mother…
Theresa “Tess” Carey passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15th surrounded by her loving family. She shared 96 years of faith and love with all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 19th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 910 Birch St., Boonton. Friends and relatives may visit on Sunday from 1-5 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Boonton. Donations in her name may be made to the good work of the Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad, 150 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005.
Tess was born in Jersey City to the late Luigi and Rose Scerbo. Her parents settled in Boonton, where she finished her schooling. In 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Carey, after he returned home from World War II. They made a home and started a family of their own, raising five daughters. After the girls were grown, she worked as a secretary for the Visiting Nurse Association for many years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother, always instilling the values of faith, family, and tradition within her family.
She was the proudest Grandma and Great Grandma to twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Tess loved to speak of the kids and she bragged of their accomplishments often, to anyone who would listen. Her family meant the world to her and even in her final days, she was surrounded with love and prayers by them all. This family Matriarch will surely be missed and has given the family much to celebrate.
Predeceased by her husband Larry, after 51 years of marriage, her adored daughter Lois, and her son-in-law John Bartell; she leaves beautiful memories to her daughters, Rosemary Bartell, Maureen Holmes (Scott), Laurie Cacciabeve (Thomas), and Allison Carey; her grandchildren Lisa Bevacqua (John), Frank LoRusso, Stephanie Bartell, Melissa McAlarnen (Michael), Bryan and Dawn Holmes, Thomas, Daniel and Kimberly Cacciabeve, Erik, John and Aimee Melgaard, and her great grandchildren, Domenica, Giovanni, Donato, Luigi, Isabella, John and Kacie.
