Obituary of Robert Gordon Birrell

Robert Gordon Birrell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover.
Bob was born (five years before Pearl Harbor) on 12/7/1936 to Gertrude Fitzherbert and Paul Birrell. He grew up in Bloomfield with a Sumer home in the Indian Lake section of Denville. He went thru the Bloomfield school system from kindergarten thru. He attended Bloomfield College for three years before settling in to his career of 25 years for Walter Kidde Co. of Belleville. He then worked for Aristocrat Limo and Bus Co. as a Limo Driver for 20 years before retiring.
Bob and Jean loved to travel covering all 50 states, most of Canada and 31 foreign countries
Bob was a member of the Union Hill Presbyterian Church of Denville serving 7 terms as an Ordained Elder Trustee. He was very active in many organizations serving 25 years as a Red Cross water safety instructor, 50 years as a member of the Masonic Lodge and 71 years as an active member of the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Scouters Key and the Silver Beaver award.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean (Golden); children Judy, Paul and Richard “Raz” Burns. Also surviving are grandchildren Kate, Rob and Annie Burns.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 11:30 am at the Union Hill Presbyterian Church, 427 Franklin Rd, Denville, NJ 07834. Memorial Donations can be made in his memory to The Oaks at Denville or Merry Heart of Boonton by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
