Caroline Lucy Bozza
Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother
Caroline Lucy Bozza, born Carolina Lucia Saracco, was the daughter of Giuseppe and Giuseppina Saracco. She was born on September 30, 1920 in Newark, New Jersey. Her brothers and sister were Angelo, Sarah and Nicholas Saracco. She attended the Newark public schools and graduated from Barringer High School. She was baptized in St. Philip Neri Church in 1921 and attended St. Lucy Church and then Sacred Heart Church in Vailsburg.
In 1949, the family moved to Rockaway and in 1950, Caroline married Ralph Anthony Bozza in St. Rocco Church in Newark. Caroline and Ralph settled in Rockaway and raised their four children there. Ralph and his brother, Daniel, were co-owners of the Bozza’s Pastry Shop for 35 years. In Rockaway, Ralph and Caroline became members of St. Cecilia Church and raised their children there.
While raising her four children, Caroline assisted at the pastry shop when needed. After raising her children, Caroline worked at Macy’s and also as a recess aide at the Washington School in Rockaway.
Caroline was a member of the third order of the Carmelites. She enjoyed daily Mass, the rosary, sewing, cooking and reading. When she could no longer attend Mass, she celebrated daily Mass with the community at EWTN. She was a longtime member of the Rosary Society of St. Cecilia Parish. She was a volunteer grandmother for children at St. Cecilia School. She was a Eucharistic minister and helped in cleaning the church. She also volunteered time at the gift shop at St. Clare’s Hospital.
Caroline is survived by her children, Father Nicholas Bozza of Chester, Dr. Ralph and Mary Louise Bozza of Farmington, Connecticut, Michelle Bozza of Whippany, New Jersey, and Henry Mulder of Manassas, VA. Her grandchildren are Mary Louise, Michael and Zana Bozza of Boston and Kaitlin, Caroline and Helena Mulder of Virginia. Her great-grandchildren are Salam and Noor Bozza of Boston. Caroline also has many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Caroline was predeceased by her parents, sister and brothers, by her husband, Ralph, and her daughter, Sara Mulder.
Caroline’s viewing will be on Friday, February 24, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Church, 90 Church St., Rockaway at 11 am on Saturday, February 25. Interment to follow at the St. Cecilia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to EWTN in Irondale, Alabama.
