"Mr Crothers ", as my children called him in their growing up days was one in a million.. He was generous with his time and energies and always made us feel that he was happy to see us. Dean and I called him when we needed to move our 10 day old baby, Loretta, to New York hospital in an emergency situation. His response was typical of "Mr" Crothers. " "When do you need the ambulance? I will get a medic, oxygen and what ever you need when ever you need it and I will drive the ambulance".
Bob was unassuming, gentle, kind and generous. He will be sorely missed, especially for his presence on Santa's truck God bless you "Mr. Crothers ". I know you will find some way to lend a helping hand in Heaven. Liz Noll and gang.

To the Crothers Family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences for Bob's passing. I had the honor of working with Bob for a number of years on DFD. Bob will always be remembered for his leadership and contributions to the fire department and to the town of Denville. There are not many that leave a legacy as he has done both with his family and community. I am sorry that I am not able to travel from Rochester for the viewing and services and wish the family well.

Uncle Bobby is an important part of my life, my magical childhood. I remember all the amazing things he did while growing up. Sitting at our kitchen table he drew the moon with elliptical circles running around it telling me this is going to be our moon shots. He was working in Cape Canaveral at the time working on the moon shots!! He talked about it with such clarity with the true eager interest of an explorer. It was fascinating.
Another time while visiting he found me watching a Disney cartoon in black and white. He did something to the television. Magically the tv turned into color!! I will never forget that.
Snake Mountain loomed large above my grandparents' summer home in Denville where my sisters and I vacationed during the summer. Uncle Bobby told his stores about Snake Mountain which stayed with us while we went berry picking on it looking for Elephants' Heaven, Devils Cave and the Indian Spirit guarding it. We looked for these things throughout the months and summers we lived up there while picking berries.
I send my love and deepest sympathy to my cousins, Barbara, Bobby, Jane, Jimmy, Carol and Doro and all the rest of the Donohue Family. Thank you Uncle Bobby. May God Bless and keep you. Candy
With love, Candy

"Old Man Crothers" I truly adored you. I joined the DVFD when I was 26 you were 70. You were the voice of the DVFD carnival. Every year you would announce "Anna Maria to the 50/50 booth" I would purposely not return to sell as many tickets as I could. we played the game. I will miss you my friend. A piece of my heart has gone to heaven. My second family that I love so much. Being the 5th daughter with the dark hair is always how Dad explained my presence annd last month remarking of a photo, wanting to know how he was still blond and I was now gray. I cherish the times we all shared. Wish I lived closer just know my spirit is there. My love to my 6 unofficial siblings. Love you all

Crothers Family
With a heavy heart though with a smile on my face I sit in my kitchen in Atlanta Ga contemplating the life of Mr Denville. For any of us who grew up in Denville our first exposure to Chief Crothers was as the Voice of the DFD Carnival. I was blessed to meet the voice at age 11 when I was drafted by Chief Crothers to play little league on his team the Denville PAL. Never did figure out why a Fireman was coaching the Police Athletic League team but..... In that one season I matured to become a better player because I was encouraged to try harder. Fast forward a few years and after joining the Fire Department I was quickly welcomed into the brotherhood and the Crothers extended family. Always available to offer advice Chief Bob never missed an opportunity to offer praise for job well done and of a suggestion of another way if in his view the job not so well done. My friendship with. the Crothers family is something I will cherish forcthe rest of my days. And I must admit a bit of sadness as this larger than life man from my youth slowed and aged.
Please accept my condolances and prayers. Hugs to all! And although I wont be there in person I be saluting a life of service come Monday.
Bob has answered his final alarm and can now rest well for all his goods deed earned him a seat at the banquet. Hold on to the memories my friends. And Rest In Peace Chief.
