Obituary of Peter Filippo

Peter Filippo, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2017 at the age of 94. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22nd from 12-2 pm with a Service of Remembrance beginning at 1 o’clock. Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Peter and his wife Maria emigrated to the United States in 1949. They settled in North Haledon and started a family. Pete worked in the construction trade, initially as a carpenter. He worked his way up to foreman and then to supervisor of large construction projects, retiring in 1987. He has been a member of the Local Carpenters Union # 253 for 65 years. Peter enjoyed reading, history, and politics. He loved fishing, spending time at the shore, and taking meticulous care of his gardens. He and his wife, Maria enjoyed traveling and explored many countries in Europe and much of the United States. Above anything else; his family made him the happiest. He was the proud Grandpa of six and Great Grandpa to two little ones. Predeceased by his dear son Robert Filippo and his brother Jan Filippo; he leaves beautiful memories to his wife Maria of 67 years; daughter Kathryn Reed, daughter-in-law Joanne Filippo; granddaughters Denise, Elena and Allison Rubinfeld; grandsons Robert, Ryan (Stacy) and Joseph Filippo; great grandchildren Taylor and Rylan; cousin Richard (Sharon) Schaafsma and many more dear friends and relatives.
