Obituary of Anna Zids
Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna Zids (nee Akermanis), loving Mother, Grandmother and Godmother, passed away on September 21, 2016 in Morristown, NJ.
Born in Riga, Latvia in 1921, she fled her homeland during the Soviet occupation in 1944 and spent the next 5 years in displaced persons' camps in Germany. She came to America in 1949, landing in New York City, and shortly thereafter moved to New Jersey, residing at various times in Elizabeth, Hillside, Parsippany, Denville and finally at Fox Hills in Rockaway Township.
Anna retired from Vari-Typer Corporation in 1987 after many, many years of employment. She enjoyed cooking Latvian meals, especially desserts. While sweets, casinos and the beach were important, her family was most important to her.
Survivors include her daughter Vita Ferlanti with whom she lived, her granddaughter Dina Ferlanti, her grandson Erik Ferlanti and her goddaughter Sandi Ledvigs. Her husband Boris Zids passed away in 1974 and her sister Zenta Ledvigs passed in 1992. Her parents and brother remained in Latvia and have since passed away.
A Memorial Service with her family will be held at a later date at the Latvian Cemetery in Elka Park, NY.
Donations in her name may be made to the good work of the American Diabetes Association.
