Deepest sympathy to the family of the great Don McCabe.
Those of us who are educators around the world, and who have been inspired by his work on Academic Integrity, are also his family.
We owe him a debt of gratitude which will keep his memory eternal. His dedication to the significance of the task, that he alone made essential to higher education institutions, allowed all of us to follow in his path. Such will forever be his legacy.
We celebrate you, Don, and live by your example as academics every day!

Don will remain very much alive for me as a serene & giving individual who cared about the people he came into contact with - even on a professional level - sincerely & unreservedly. My husband and I will always remember Don's first visit to Greece and then a second, with his loving DJ. May his family and friends bask in the knowledge that he was special to so many of us around the world! Rest eternal, as your memory shall be.

I've had the great pleasure of both working with Don (on our campus' integrity survey) and in relaxed conversations over food at conferences. He was a gentleman with a great sense of humor. I've pointed to him as a role model for young faculty. Don will be missed. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I knew Don "Tubby" Mc Cabe for many, many years. No, his buddies did not give him the nickname of Tubby. His father did it to him.
A more loyal, forever friend did not exist. If you needed him he was there.
What he went through was horrible. His passing is really a blessing for him. Enough was enough.
I am very sorry I could not be at the service, but I was glad we got to be with him a few weeks ago. I know he appreciated the visit.
God bless DJ. She did it all.
God bless his kids and grandkids. He sired a great group.

What a loss. Not only a lovely guy with a great Jersey accent, but someone who truly make a deep impression on the academic world. Just as academic honesty was under attack, he began his research and then became the leading spokesman in the country for understanding and combating dishonesty.
I still quote things he said when he came to my SUNY campus where instilling an understanding of academic honesty is a difficult task.
I had always hoped there would be another chance to discuss the issues with him and feel a great loss that it won't happen.

As Don's long time collaborator and co-author, I will miss him terribly. He and I shared our personal experiences with academic integrity and the impact they had on our lives. As a result, we began to conduct research together. Don was as passionate about his research on academic integrity as any person could be. This was truly his life's work and he became the acknowledged foremost expert on the topic in the world.
Much of our work together was conducted virtually. I always loved our phone conversations because, in addition to getting the work done, they were fun! Don always had a quip (or two or three) that got me laughing. I believe that the work that Don did, and that we did together, was important to the world and I hope that the book we wrote together (with Ken Butterfield) leaves a lasting legacy of that work.
My thoughts and prayers are with DJ, the children and grandchildren, and Don's many friends and colleagues. I hope to be able to attend on Sunday.
In the meantime, I send my love to you all - Linda Trevino

Don was a friend with whom I always loved to catch up- not just to reminisce but to talk about his ongoing passion for ensuring ethics in an increasingly unethical world. How fitting that he closed out his life with his 50th wedding anniversary (building up to it with our 50th with him as a Princeton class). I'm sorry I'm now out of the country and unable to celebrate his life in person. Sympathy and best wishes to the McCabe family.

My heart breaks without Don, our inspirational and guiding light at the helm. He was a friend , class leader and educational counselor. So very few of us have any impact beyond our immediate circle ; Don most certainly DID. He started and directed the national discussion on ethics and cheating. Bravo, dear friend.
A locomotive to McCabe. Hip, hip.......

As a former colleague of Don's for many years at Rutgers, I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends. He had a passion for his academic work and a great deal of recognition both nationally and internationally for his extensive research on academic integrity. May he rest in peace and the family find comfort. Hopefully the difficult days will soon turn to memories that sustain your sense of connection.

DJ and family,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you.
We can say without hesitation that We've never known a finer human being or nicer person than Don.
After one successful career he went on to have an even more successful second career, and no one should be surprised that don would become the voice for greater integrity in academia.
He surpassed his career achievements by with you, rearing a wonderful family whose love for you both is evident.
Love,
Virg & Bob
