I am so sad to read this obituary today. Doug and I were best friends our freshman year at Boston University in Rich hall dormitory. I remember those days quite fondly riding bicycles with Doug and Jeff Haag on city streets of downtown Boston. I met Nancy one time when she came to visit Doug during our freshman year. He spoke so highly of her and what a great bond he had with her. In a bazaar coincidence I moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1991 where I met my wife. I so wish I had kept up with Doug especially given we lived only two hours apart. He will always stand out in my mind as one of nicest and funniest guys that I have ever met. I will truly miss him. Your friend Rob B.

We could not have asked for better neighbors than Doug and Nancy. Not many people will help you move furniture the very first time meeting you. Doug always greeted us with a smile. We enjoyed watching him fly his helicopter in the backyard, ride his bike with Nancy, and walk precious Marco. We will miss him dearly but are ever so thankful that we knew him.
Love you both and praying for the family daily.

I will never forget growing up across the street from Doug and Diane. We spent every New Year's Eve together from the time I was a baby through my teens. He was a huge part of our lives and I'm so sorry about his passing. My heart goes out to Nancy and Diane and all of Doug's family. We were all truly blessed to have known such a good man.

I first got to know Doug in 2010 as my manager for a couple of years. He quickly became my friend and confidant. We kept in touch over the years and he supported me through some difficult times in my life. We shared our enjoyment of surfing and the ocean. Doug always saw the positive and humor in situations. I will miss him. Dear Nancy, my condolences.

Doug was my manager from 2009-2011 but more importantly, a friend ever since ... he always offered the best advice, sent cards, attended my mother's funeral, called to check-in, championed my career, knew the best restaurants, enjoyed road-tripping to meetings, loved networking, found the positive aspect of any situation, constantly volunteered to help. His quote that will remain with me forever; "Family first and always."
Rest easy, my friend.

I am going to miss Doug an incredible amount. I met him when I was 6 years old and became his brother in-law when I was 12. Doug was the happiest person I have ever met. We had so many fun times through the last 37 years and so many laughs. It's still unreal to me that I'll never get another chance to hear one of his funny stories, take one of his famous tours he used to give in NC or jump in his un-airconditioned grand Prix so we can drive down a dirt road behind the airport on a 100 degree day. I'd give anything to sweat in that car again with him driving down that road. He may have been the best brother in-law I could ever ask for but he never really felt like a brother in-law to me. He was just my brother. I'll miss you Doug and God bless you. RIP
