Obituary of Adolph Michael Cucci
Please share a memory of Adolph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Adolph Michael Cucci entered into Eternal Rest to join his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 10th 2016, at the VA Health Care System in Lyons, New Jersey. He was 94 years young.
Born in Clifton, Adolph was raised in Lyndhurst, NJ. In 1942 he was drafted into the Atlanta Braves Baseball System as a third baseman for the Atlanta Crackers. That same year he was also drafted by the United States Army and, at the age of 20, enlisted to proudly serve his country in WWII. He trained for 3 years to become an Army Ranger and esteemed marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Adolph was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal.
In 1953, Adolph married Jeannette Martin. They built their home and raised their family in Wayne, NJ. An avid golfer, Adolph spent countless hours on the course with his wife and children. Theirs was the home that family and friends gravitated to for a warm welcome, a swim, a good laugh and always a fun time.
‘A’, as his friends and family knew him, sung on the radio at a young age alongside his father and later became an accomplished jazz guitarist. He cherished every opportunity to play guitar with his brothers and harmonize with his sisters. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. Grandpa ‘Ningy’ (lovingly dubbed by his first grand-daughter after a song he sang to her) took tremendous pride in their accomplishments, attending school functions, dance recitals and competitions and cheering at countless baseball games. He was their champion and they truly adored him. He was also a faithful Catholic who prayed the Rosary, daily for most of his adult life.
Adolph was a self-employed Architect (AM Cucci Associates) for most of his long career. His designs were innovative and ‘ahead of their time’. Many hospitals, schools, churches, municipal buildings, redevelopment projects, and residences in the Morris, Essex, and Passaic County areas were his creations, including Morristown Memorial Hospital, Dover General Hospital, The County College of Morris, St. Francis DeSales R.C. Church and Wayne PAL Police Athletic League to name just a few. Adolph moved to Flemington NJ in 1990, and continued practicing his craft alongside his son until he was 91 years old.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Jeanette (nee Martin), his adored children Ann Cucci and Peter (Patti) Cucci are left to keep his legacy alive; as well his cherished grandchildren, Jenna, Alana, Samantha, and David; his caring siblings, Michael (Joan), Frank, Marie (Joe), and Jackie (Lou); and, many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 16th at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. Friends and relatives may visit prior to the Mass beginning at 10:00am at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to VA NJ Healthcare System, Attn: Voluntary Service, Mail Code 135LY, 151 Knollcraft Rd., Lyons, NJ 07939 or by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org
