Obituary of Richard E. Zanella

Zanella, Richard E. died on Sunday, August 7, 2016. Born in Spangler, PA and grew up in Barnesboro, PA. He was preceded in death by parents, Eugene and Margaret (Mongelluzzo) and brother Amato.
Survived by wife Michele, sisters Esther Swerbinsky (Joseph), Florence Winne, Joanne Rovder (Francis) and brother Eugene (Kay), daughter Krista, and sister-in-law Lois. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Richard received a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Masters of Education from Pennsylvania State University and completed an A.B.D. from Fordham University, and did extensive post-graduate work at Stanford and Vanderbilt.
His career in education spanned more than 40 years including teaching, coaching, and secondary school administration in several Pennsylvania schools as well as Mountain Lakes, Paramus, and the ALLEGRO School for autistic children.
His honors in education included New Jersey Principal of the Year and a Dodge Fellow.
He loved to travel, was a voracious reader and especially loved being an educator.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania. Condolences may be shared at the website.
