Please share a memory of Elsie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elsie L.Wiest (nee Robertson) Elsie L. Wiest peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was born on March 15th, 1926 in Princess Bay, Staten Island N.Y. and attended PS 3 elementary school then graduated Tottenville High School at the young age of 16. She had fond memories of working behind the counter at her parent’s Soda Fountain and news store beside the train tracks in Princess Bay. She worked in NYC under the employment of Guarantee Trust Company on Broadway. For enjoyment she frequented a local roller skating rink in Perth AmboyN.J. where she met her husband, Raymond J. Wiest. They married on June 27, 1948 at Star of the Sea Church in Huguenot, S.I. and have been devoted to each other for nearly 68 years. Elsie and Ray raised three daughters during their 44 years on Staten Island: Lorraine Dugan who is predeceased, Joan Wiest of RI, and Barbara Wiest (Gene Biancheri) of Rockaway, NJ. Elsie enjoyed being on the water in one of several boats they owned making overnight trips up and down the Hudson River to the shores of southern NJ. Her love of being by the water continued when they moved to Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ. Once they relocated to Fox Hills in rockaway NJ, she was busy with various activities with all the new friends she met and which were so dear to her. Elsie and Ray travelled extensively through Europe, Hawaii and the United States. She always said, “I’m glad we did what we did when we did it.” as she fondly remembered all the places they’ve been together. She continued travelling with her friends from Fox Hills to various local places and participated in the Red Hat Ladies Club, Italian Club and Monday Game Nights. In between her social activities she loved to knit, crochet and cross-stitch. Elsie leaves behind two grandchildren: Kara Romeo and Kimberly Wonsowicz of Staten Island, her son-in-law Garry Dugan; 3 great-granchildren: Madison, Kenneth and Jack; 3 nephews: Donald Wiest, Kevin Ennis and Garry Richards and 1 niece, Dianne Wiest.
