Obituary of Maurice Joseph Monti

Maurice Joseph Monti, 88, of Rainbow Lakes, NJ, died at Compassionate Care Hospice, St. Clare’s Hospital, Dover, NJ on May 31, 2016.
The son of Jack and Mary Berzola Monti, Maurice was born in the borough of Manhattan, New York City, NY, on November 27, 1927. He graduated from New York’s Commerce High School and then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving two years overseas before returning to New York in 1947.
On September 6, 1952, Maurice married Jane Catherine Kealy in Great Kills, NY, and they began a life together that would span 56 years. In 1962, they left Great Kills and became longtime residents of Rainbow Lakes, NJ, where they would raise their six children.
Maurice worked for the Allied Chemical Corporation, Morristown, NJ, for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. He joined the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company in 1964 and served with that organization in many capacities, most recently as secretary. In 2014 he was recognized for his 50 years of service to the fire company. In addition, Maurice was a member of the Rainbow Lakes Community Club, the Honeywell/Allied Retirees’ Organization where he served on the board and as historian, and was also a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Mountain Lakes, NJ. For many years Maurice was active in the Morris Catholic High School Parents’ Sports Boosters while his children attended.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers, John and Peter Monti, and his sister, Lena Sterlini.
He is survived by his brother Alfred Monti of Parma, OH, six children, Nora Protokowicz (Daniel) of Wilmington, DE, Jennifer Pitts (Thomas) of Adairville, KY, Lisa Monti of Rainbow Lakes, NJ, Sheila Roche (Thomas) of Haddon Township, NJ, Christopher Monti (Michele) of Hampstead, NH, and Pamela Mahoney (Andrew) of Springfield, PA; grandchildren Jill & Beth Protokowicz; Kyle, Joel, & Courtney Pitts; Joseph, Matthew, Kelly, Christian, & Lindsay Roche; Sarah, Laura, Nicholas, & Calvin Monti; Krista, Derek, & Mark Mahoney; and many loved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated w at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 10 Pocono Rd, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 on June 7, 2016 at 9:30AM followed by interment at the Denville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may visit with the family prior to the Mass beginning at 8 am at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Donations in his memory to the good work of the Rainbow Lakes Fire Company may be made by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
